China’s Hog Prices Fluctuate at Low Levels with Mild Pre-holiday Rebound

As of April 28, China’s domestic hog prices continue to operate at a low level with limited regional divergence. Driven by the May Day holiday stocking demand from slaughterhouses and distributors, the overall hog market has achieved a slight short-term rebound recently.

At present, the breeding industry is still trapped in cost inversion and overall losses. Market supply remains sufficient, restricting the room for a sharp price increase. After the holiday, consumption will return to a slack season. It is expected that hog prices will weaken again and maintain weak and volatile operation in the later period.
